Create a pilot group, a selection of testers who are permissioned to see only the test content for your GenSearch pilot. This pilot group will be the users who create a test set of questions to help you evaluate generative responses.
With enable by group functionality, you can enable GenSearch for a test group of users who only have permission to view test content.
To create your pilot group:
- Create a new user group in the Control Panel.
- Permission content for the pilot group to view.
- Enable GenSearch for the pilot group.
Once you complete these steps you will have created a GenSearch test experience within your production site.

Step 1: Create a user group in the Control Panel
- On the Expert toolbar, select Site tools > Control panel.
- In the control panel, under Users & Groups, select Groups.
- Click Add Groups.
- In the Groups dialog, enter your group names.
Ampersands (&) in group names are currently NOT supported.
Give your groups easily identifiable names such as "Employees" (for general access), "Editors" (for specific user access) or "Compliance" (for specific departmental access).
Although you can assign any role you want to groups, we strongly recommend assigning groups the Viewer role since higher roles can always be assigned on specific pages or sections later.
- Assign the Role of Viewer (recommended) to your groups.
- Click Add Groups.
- Choose the group Authentication.
- Click Add Groups.
For users who are part of a group, the highest assigned global role in the control panel is in effect across the entire site. Also, page permissions may affect global roles.
Although community members can be added to groups, the role of a group only applies to pro members in that group. Community members cannot contribute—even if a part of a contributing group.
Step 2: Permission content for the pilot group to view
Restrict access to your page or groups of pages
To grant access for users to a specific page or section:
- Navigate to the page or top page of the section you want to restrict access to.
- From the Expert toolbar, select Options > Restrict access.
- Under Page-Level Permissions, enter a User or Group into the field and click Add to list.
- If needed, click Apply changes to all sub-pages and choose the appropriate option.
- Click Save settings.
New sub-pages automatically inherit the settings of parent pages.
Step 3: Enable GenSearch for the pilot group
