AI Assistant request function

The AI Assistant request function enables content authors and editors to ask ExpertAI questions about article content from within the Editor experience. This streamlines the content authoring and editing process, as users do not have to toggle between a GenAI window and the document they are authoring.

The AI Assistant request function is currently supported for the US-east region and en-us language.

How to use

  1. Position your cursor within the article, or highlight the text you want to use.
  2. Open the AI Assistant in one of these ways:
    • In the menu bar, click Tools Ask AI...
    • Click the AI button in the toolbar.
    • When text is highlighted, click the AI button in the context toolbar that pops up.

  3. Type your question or prompt into the text field.
  4. Click the Generate button or press Enter on your keyboard.

The AI Assistant is only available through the Editor interface, and cannot be reached via API.

Response handling

When a response is generated, you can Discard, Try Again, or Insert the response into the article body.

  • Discard: Closes the AI Assistant box. Does not change article text.
  • Try Again: Resubmits the original prompt or query. Does not change the article text.
  • Insert: Inserts the response. For highlighted text, the response will replace the text.

How AI Assistant responses differ from GenSearch responses

  • AI Assistant responses do not stream. Responses are only returned once completed.
  • There is no RAG implementation. ExpertAI Assistant prompts go straight to the LLM and do not pass through the vector database.
  • AI Assistant completions are not reported in completions events or reports.
