Brute force protection locking ensures that user accounts are secured against brute force sign in attacks on your Expert Site.

Brute force protection locking ensures that if a user fails to successfully sign in after a consecutive number of times, the user will not be able to login without taking additional steps. This is a way to prevent brute force attacks on your Expert site. Brute force attacks are programmed attacks that try to sign in using a definition list of usernames and passwords in order to gain access to a site.

By default, this feature is enabled on your Expert site. If 10 failed sign in attempts occur within a five minute period, users will receive a message to contact their site administrator.

To enable access, an administrator of your site will have to reactivate them in the Expert control panel.  If you would like to set the number of failed sign in attempts to occur at a number higher or lower than 10, please contact a Expert Support agent.
