Multi-author notifications in the Editor

In multi-author teams, a user needs to know when they request to edit a page that is already being edited by another user, and when another user requests to edit a page they are currently editing. This enables authors and editors to make informed decisions about next steps and coordinate required edits to prevent edit overwriting or duplicate efforts across a team or business unit.
Informational notification

When other authors are also editing the current page, the Editor returns an an informational notification listing all additional edit users. This notification will not list the current user (the person viewing the notification).

The informational notice contains:

  • An informational notification icon
  • A dynamic comma separated list of all additional edit session users
    • Live edits return live page authors
    • Draft edits return draft authors
  • A button to refresh the list of users
  • A button to close the informational notice box
User button

The tool bar includes a user icon button UI - Editor - Multi-author notification - User icon.png  that triggers the informational notification. When a user clicks this button:

  • If the informational notification is closed and other users are editing the page, the informational notification appears.
  • If the informational notification is already open and other users are editing the page, the notification is refreshed.
  • If no other users are editing the page, the notification is not returned.
